About This Place

Nestled in the charming town of Inverness, Nova Scotia, Whit’s Public House is a standout destination for those craving hearty, thoughtfully crafted fare that celebrates both local flavors and comforting classics. This vibrant restaurant specializes in a delightful array of dishes that perfectly unite fresh ingredients with bold, satisfying tastes.

Seafood lovers will find themselves drawn to the signature Fish and Chips, boasting a remarkably generous portion of flaky haddock encased in a golden, crispy batter that shatters beautifully with each bite. Paired with tartar sauce, it’s a quintessential Maritime treat that’s both indulgent and fresh. Equally enticing is the Blackened Salmon with Basmati Rice and Vegetables, where the smoky, spiced crust of the salmon harmonizes with fluffy rice and tender seasonal veggies, making every mouthful a balanced delight.

If you’re leaning toward something meaty and comforting, the Double Smash Burger and the Chicken Wings come highly recommended. The burger is a masterclass in juicy, perfectly seasoned beef layered with fresh toppings, while the wings are crispy, flavorful, and ideal for sharing. For a lighter touch or something to nibble on with friends, the Nachos with Chicken and Potato Skins deliver big on flavor and texture—crisp, cheesy, and bursting with savory goodness.

Whit’s Public House also offers a delightful twist on casual dining with their Pizza Margherita Flatbread — thin, crisp, and topped with vibrant basil and gooey mozzarella, it’s simple yet deeply satisfying. And sides like Broccolini and Broccoli with Garlic Sauce bring a fresh, earthy balance to the plate, highlighting the kitchen’s attention to detail and variety.

The beverage menu is equally impressive, showcasing a curated selection of local brews such as the aromatic Cabot Ale, the rich Coore’s Pale Ale, and unique options like the Rhubarb Strawberry Sour or the crisp Good Company Cider. These drinks not only complement the menu perfectly but also provide a genuine taste of the region’s craft beer culture.

Dining at Whit’s Public House is more than just a meal—it’s an experience. The atmosphere is lively and inviting, with a spacious layout that blends indoor comfort and outdoor charm via a welcoming veranda. Many guests have praised the staff for their warmth and attentiveness, which adds an extra layer of hospitality to your visit. Whether you're there to unwind after a cycling tour or to catch local live music performances on weekend evenings, the spirited yet relaxed environment encourages savoring every bite and every moment.

Feedback from patrons consistently highlights not only the generous portions and flavorful dishes but also the appealing ocean views and vibrant ambiance. From LaRae’s enthusiastic endorsement of the “fabulous” Double Smash Burger and refreshing goat cheese salad to Leona’s amazement at the fresh, crispy haddock and exceptional service, the consensus is clear: Whit’s Public House delivers on quality, value, and authenticity.

For travelers and locals alike seeking a memorable dining destination where every dish is crafted with care and the atmosphere buzzes with genuine warmth, Whit’s Public House stands out as a must-visit spot in Inverness. It’s a place where robust flavors meet friendly faces, creating a truly satisfying culinary getaway on Nova Scotia’s beautiful Cabot Trail.

Dined outside mid-afternoon with a group at the conclusion of a cycling tour. I had the double smash burger and split the seasonal salad (with goat cheese!!) -- both fabulous!! Several had fish & chips which was a HUGE piece of fish and looked delicious. Shared the fried pepperoni app - tasty and definitely a local dish to try. Too good to remember to take any food pix.

OMG!!! You Gotta eat here!!! I've never seen so many servers to take care of the diners! The atmosphere was wonderful, good and spacious, and the food portions for the price you pay! I've seen a haddock that big and fresh with a crispy batter that was delicious with the Tatar sauce! Did I mention that the staff are super friendly with smiles! Highly recommend!

Food was perfect. I had salmon almandine and my partner had seafood chowder with a smash burger. All delicious! Menu was not extensive which is always a good sign! Good portion size, great service and reasonably priced. Ocean view. Live music at 7 pm. Fantastic.

Fun lively atmosphere both artists performing live on Friday and Saturday night were great. The fish was a massive piece, delicious, spinach dip was great but better with bread than the chips. The pasta dish we had was also full of flavor and a good portion size. Food came promptly, our server Jess was fun prompt and lively. Our host Tehya was sweet and very attentive to our needs as well despite not being our server. The patio at sunset is breathtaking, beautiful weather and Cannot wait to come back.

The interior is simple and atmospheric at the same time. Relatively spacious, there are seats on the veranda too. There is a stage for musical performances here, but we didn't catch any of them during our meal. Normal parking area. My wife and I ordered Spinach Dip & Seafood Chowder. And Cabot Ale for me & muscat sparkling wine Nova 7 for her. We liked everything very much. The prices are reasonable and you can see them at the menu in my photos.

Had a delightful bowl of seafood chowder here and my friend had some delicious looking wings. Third friend had a very generous salad. The onion rings lacked any flavour. A live musician appeared during our meal and that was also a delight! It’s very much the spot for the golfers.

Best burger I have ever had in my life! Stopped in here for supper after a great day at the beach and golfing. The atmosphere was wonderful, live music, friendly service and great vibes. Food came out all at once and was hot and fresh. The burger was perfectly cooked and put together and the french fries were exceptional. I would highly recommend eating here. I will definitely be back!

We got double smashed burger and salmon almandine- both were great! Service was fast and friendly. Sat outside on a beautiful day, great spot to stop on our drive thru! Live music was available later in the evening but not at our early dinner time.
